The first time I met you, I never knew,
That there was a woman as wonderful as you,
But I met you too late, and had to leave,
What a cruel twist of fate I did receive.
Your words and thoughts, I would feel too,
The way you made me feel was exciting and new.
Our time was short and I had so much to share,
I wanted to tell you more, but was always too scared.
Never in my life was there someone so good for me as you,
And my love every moment with you only grew.
It broke my heart when I had to go away,
And over the years, the pain of that only stayed.
I knew in my heart we would both move on in life,
And eventually I found another to be my wife.
But I keep a special place in my heart to this day.
The love of my life, the one that got away
