In the middle of the night
Has no one told me where are you
I hold my pillow tight
Day by day the pain grew
The wait’s been so long
I was lost with the time
The misery has by far grown
And tonight the pain rhymes
God, help me to turn away
This heartache I cannot pave
God, help me to stay
In this unkind world I must be brave
God, help me to breathe
With faith I can only live
God, help me to free
And in You I must believe
Again and again I tossed
Again and again I turned
The memory of you I must burn
On my bed tonight I must no longer yearn
Over you, over you
As I knew, this is the truth
And the night left me so cold
Over and over I was told
You’d never come back, you’d never care
And tonight as the stars behold
The pain, the vain I must no longer bear.
