Uncaptured Moment

As the evening came upon us
We held each other on the couch
I felt your beating heart pause
As you said I love you very much

Your eyes and mine were locked
In an almost never-ending gaze
My heart palpitated with force
While my lips quivered on my face.

My heart wanted to shout victory
But my mouth wouldn’t respond
To those words I so longed to hear
Fear caused me not to move beyond.

I never thought that one moment
Could change the path of our lives
Now we merely are two souls
Distant by circumstance and time.

But my heart still wants redemption
To capture the moment it so lost
It continues to recall and question
What if that moment had been caught.
