My Shining Star
by Leslie Kinney
I couldn’t eat I couldn’t sleep
I knew my man was up to deceit
On a night with the girls so I could clear my head
A few drinks and giggles to relieve the dread
As I watched around the bar in this new place
I watched you play pool with a grin on my face
My cell phone rang and it was my menace
The lying, cheating, devilish man Prentis
As the anger in my veins steady flows
Here you came with a beautiful rose
I hung up the phone and invited you to join us
You lending me your ear and listened as I fussed
We exchanged numbers as I made my depart
I called you days later as we were miles apart
Many conversations later as we both spilled our hearts
It was safe to say we both needed new starts
Even though the distance between us is far
I want you to know you’ve been my shining star
