A pebble thrown into a pool
A story to my eyes
Ripples form which build to hold
A message in disguise

The circles flow to every point
Hold steady then they fade
But with another pebble tossed
New rings are once more made

And so I sit renewing them
With pebbles - one by one
I carefully watch the rings expand
Then toss before they’re done

Then the sun begins to set
And shadows start to creep
I suddenly become aware
That love is ours to keep

So simple now for me to see
A simple thing to do
To know if love begins to fade
Our efforts can renew

It’s not enough to just stand by
And hope that there will be
Something there to start the rings
It must be you and me

I bend to pick the pebbles
Place half into your hand
First me - then you we take our turn
Both watching as they land

Where nothing was the rings appear
And as they move and grow
It’ now your turn to share your love
So we will always know

That side by side we’ll walk this path
To build as do the rings
A love so strong that it endures
No matter what life brings

Now to that end I realize
One thing becomes a must
We can’t just say - I love you - but
I love you and I trust
