Chasing Castles
by T.B.
Were too old to spend our precious time Imagining some dream And ignoring what we have before our eyes. We dont have the life remaining To deny things as they seem, Chasing rainbows and those castles in the sky.
Life can deal you an awful hand Or fill you with delight. Life can dash your dreams before your very eyes. And when darkness closes round you Do you spend those lonely nights Searching endlessly for castles in the sky?
Put your feet upon the ground. Take the time to look around And youll find the dream youre seeking might be here. Theres no need for you to fly. Youve no reason to deny, And its time to face your worries and your fear.
All those castles end up empty, And the clouds all lose their form, Then again were left alone and wondering why. As tomorrows slip to yesterdays, And all our dreams are torn, And we sit and chase more castles in the sky.
Look! The surf is softly lapping At our feet while we look upward Never seeing, just avoiding what is there. And the castle that we have Washes out and crumbles downward And were left with floating castles in the air.
We can tell ourselves were strong, And just searching to belong, And we exercised due caution on the way. But the life we might have missed, And the people weve not kissed Come to haunt us when it turns our final day.
Id rather say I tried, Than to face the fact I lied To myself, and simply never tried at all. Because when its said and done Its not the battles that weve won, Its the "never tried" which pains us most of all.
